The state-approved holiday resort of Gleißenberg is situated in an open, south-facing valley basin, surrounded by one of the mountain chains of the Bavarian Forest. Owing to its mild climate and wind-sheltered location, the resort has been referred to as the "Bavarian Merano". The well-built, well-marked walking routes offer several benches. Hiking trails through forests rich in mushrooms and berries lead to the nearby mountain tops, which are almost 1000 metres in height and offer a magnificent vista. A ride through the beautiful surroundings by horse-drawn carriage is an experience the whole family will enjoy. In winter the resort offers tobogganing on snowy slopes, curling on natural frozen ponds, and a variety of winter sports in the local area, where snow is guaranteed every year.
